The original H.B.I.C …Barbie has turned 51 today 🙂 Happy Birthday!
Cue the confetti: Barbie’s turning 51! On March 9, 1959, the first Barbie doll, created by Ruth Handler, made its public debut at the American International Toy Fair in New York. Boy has she accomplished a lot over the past half century — plus one; she’s been an astronaut, an ice cream shop owner, even a doctor. But these days, Barbie likes to spend her timeTweeting. Doesn’t everybody?
In honor of the big day, Mattel is relaunching its vintage SuperStar Barbie, a revival of the 1977 original that featured Barbie’s first ever removable diamond ring. Especially for Barbie’s B-Day, the doll will be available for its original price of $3 for one week only from March 6 to March 13 at major retailers nationwide.
The package includes a reproduction of the vintage Barbie doll in a pink halter dress from the era with a boa and matching shoes; an extra reproduction dress, shoes and boa in black; and a collector’s booklet.
