“For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf” was originally a choreopoem written by Ntozake Shange in 1975.
Remade into a film, ‘For Colored Girls” deals with love, abandonment, rape, domestic abuse, abortion, and murder.
Although I have mixed opinions about the film as a whole, I did appreciate the beautiful mix of struggle, strength and survival. Contrary to some critics, Tyler Perry did a good job interpreting the choreopoem to fit a more modern audience. I truly believe EVERY actress and actor in this film deserves an Oscar or Grammy. Something. The emotion and ability in this movie was of nothing I have seen in a very long time. Phenomenal.
BET aired a Black Girls Rock special last night and although I didn’t tune in, I did appreciate the performance by Jill Scott, Kelly Price, Marsha Ambrosius, and Ledisi. The performed Nina Simone’s “Four Women”. Crazy, because a while back while watching the films trailer I absolutely fell in love with the song playing in the background.
Check it out.
Remember when I showed you guys a small clip of Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married Too”? Well the official trailer is here, and when I say it looks rather freaking interesting, I mean it looks like it is going to be the sh*t.
Particulars on this mug (like the release date) have not been released yet, so stayed tuned.
